Vivid Mind: Revolutionizing Dementia Screening with Sound

Sometimes, all it takes is a single moment to change the course of your life. For Vivid Mind co-founder Dariusz, that moment came when his mother’s onset of dementia was misdiagnosed in primary care – while a proper, timely diagnosis could have altered everything. This personal experience sparked the idea behind Vivid Mind, a startup with a mission to revolutionize the way we detect early dementia using just the sound of a person’s voice.

Vivid Mind isn’t just addressing a problem—they’re changing the game. With their groundbreaking voice biomarker technology, they’ve created a dementia screening test that requires nothing more than a smartphone and a 6-second voice recording (the entire test takes under 40 seconds). In a world where timely diagnosis is key, this innovation offers an accessible, reliable, and non-invasive solution. Unlike traditional methods, this test can be done remotely, without the need for medical personnel, making it a game-changer in communities with limited healthcare access.

The impact of their solution has already been felt. In collaboration with Wroclaw Medical University, they identified cases of mild cognitive impairment years before traditional tests could. Three out of four women tested in 2017 and considered healthy developed dementia by 2023, but Vivid Mind’s technology, using 2017 data, predicted this outcome. This speaks volumes about the test’s potential for early, timely interventions.

Vivid Mind has also garnered significant recognition. With several startup competition wins and major partnerships, including collaborations with health insurers and telemedicine companies, their progress has been nothing short of impressive. They’ve already made waves in Europe and have their sights set on expanding into the U.S. market, where the need for timely dementia detection is more crucial than ever.

But what truly sets Vivid Mind apart isn’t just their tech—it’s their approach. Their screening test focuses on how a person speaks, rather than what they say, eliminating cultural or language biases that have hindered other tests. And with no need for specialized hardware, the test is as versatile as it is innovative.

Vivid Mind’s journey is a testament to resilience because even during challenging times, like financial shortages, the founders have continued pushing forward without hesitation. They’ve learned that in the startup world, speed is essential, and fundraising is a numbers game. Their experience in our acceleration programme, Labena Ventures, has taught them the value of action over perfection.

As they continue to grow, Vivid Mind is not just advancing their own mission but also pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in dementia care. They’re democratising access to early detection and paving the way for a future where timely interventions are available to everyone, no matter where they live.
